69 I6 has five lugs
I just ran the VIN # on a 69 grande and it comes up I6 even though the car has 5 lugs (F&R) and ford 9" rear end. I can not make out the door tag as it is like a sticker NOT like every other classic Mustang I have had that has had a metal tag with body, color, trim, date, DSO, axle, trans. This car has a sticker on the driver doorwith this infobut being 38 years old it can't be made out. Is there any other place that his info could be found?
The car currently has a 302 and 4 speed that appears to have been in the car a very long time.

its a used car who knows whats its been done to it over the years. that door tag is the only place i know of that has that info. could have started life as a inline6 car got everything changed out later on. unless you want to track down every owner of it id just ignore it and enjoy the car.my dad use to have a 71 fastback that was a inline 6 but the car was a 5 lug.my 68 started life as a inline 6 car when i got it. it had a 302 2 barrel c4 and a 8 inch rear.
im not sure as far i know all inline 6 cars where a 4 lug since they used the 7.5 rear end in sted of a 8 inch or 9.since yours is a 9 inch someone put it in there. only mustangs with a 9 inch are big block or early gt ones.
The 69's all had 5 lugs.. At least Im pretty sure they did,, They also came with the heavier suspension, so no need for changes when doing v-8 swaps.. Correct me if im wrong..

I'm sure you've considered this, but if the tag on the door is the only place you could obtain this information, and the door was swapped... there may not be much that's represented correctly. People who aren't in the biz, (hobbiest like me), may not have the wherewithall to have made sure a door tag stayed with the original car. I doubt it would have even occured to me. Just a thought. Best of luck,
