I like it. I had a few used regular bearings laying around but wanted a tapered roller type so I didn't go the bearing route. Mine design has a definite lifespan and the next version may include tapered bearings.

The tapered roller bearing and race I used was the outside bearing on an old disc brake rotor I had laying around from a car I parted out. It is a fairly common ford bearing so I will always have plenty of replacements on hand, not that I will probably ever need one. If you want to see how I made my compressor I wrote a "how to" web page on the subject. Go to my home page www.dazecars.com and scroll down to the topic "Building a bolt-in spring compressor or ball joint tool."
