Default 351w rebuild

I am going to dig into the windsor this week and get it ready to go to the machine shop. I want to get between 300-325HP out of this thing. What setup would you do or do you know of that will get me to that number?

Thanks!
Kevin

A nice head/cam/intake swap should do nicely, along with an electronic ignition and of course exhaust....

300-325 can be made with stock heads even, whats your budget and what are you using for heads?

Yeah, 300-325hp at the crankfrom a 351W is a pretty easy to accomplish setup. Stock GT40 iron heads(93 Cobra, 5.0 Exploders etc), a decent little cam and a good intake/exhaust/carb setup would put you at 350hp, prolly more. Good aftermarket heads will put you over 400. Naturally aspirated, not turning more than 6,000rpm

would you recommend a stock master rebuild kit and then upgrade the cam, aluminum heads, upgraded intake, carb???? does anyone have a more specific combo that might include exactly what they have/would use as far as the cam, heads and intake go?

That really depends on your budget and how concerned about performance you are. I prefer to get the parts individually so I can get exactly what I want/need. Good pistons(lightweight forged), some lightweight rods maybe(floating pin forged - or h beam, h if you plan to do heavy nitrous or blower, but you'd prolly need a better crank for that too), good heads like AFR 185's or something similar, Darts, Canfields etc etc. A hydraulic roller cam, a good street intake and a decent carb in like the 650-675cfm range with a nice ignition and exhaust system. If you really built it right and set it up right, you could push over 400rwhp naturally aspirated and not turn much over 6,000rpm, and be able to drive it every day. What you put into it depends on what you can spend and what you want. A high milage daily driver? A nice street car, a modest engine that'll take boost or juice? Or do you want a pavement pounding, fire-breathing, all engine monstrosity?

not a daily driver. I drive it probably 3 times a week. I do want it to be daily driver worthy though.

I would think that I would like to have this thing in and running for under $5k. less is better if i can still get the 300+ horses and put some fun extras too. I don't intend to race it or anything like that. just enough under the hood to let you know I am there. I want that $5k to include all accessories, headers, pipes, mufflers etc. I don't think i should have any problem with that. going to start getting the motor ready and then when i park her for the season this fall i will be breaking it out next spring with the new horses under the hood. I also don't intend on upgrading the suspensionfor a bit while my check book catches up with the budget for this engine. that is a major factor too. I have done some looking around and have found that that HP range should do fine with what is already on there with the I6. of course disc brakes will be an upcoming project to.

think of it like this.....

with C9 or DO heads the 4bbl 351's made almost 300 hp BONE STOCK. your looking for dependable power here is what i suggest.

sealed power/speed-pro hyper flattop pistons with coated skirts. this will allow a tighter piston to wall clearance than forged which is good for a streetable car (unless you plan on forced induction or nitrous later on) plus they are WAY cheaper.

a decent flat tappet cam, you dont need to shell out assloads of cash for a roller swap for what your doing

GT40P heads, which can be found for 600.00 with stiff springs and large valves here: http://www.tristatecylinderhead.com/...products_id=40 you will need "P" specific headers for these btw or you'll never get your spark plugs in

a nice dual plane intake, like a edelbrock performer rpm. top it off with something like a 625 road demon or a 650 speed demon carb (vac. secondaries)

anyways, thats the route i would take. no overcomplicating or overspending. its not needed when your trying to get a easily obtainable goal out of a 351. would be rock solid and have plenty of ***** [8D]

that right there should put you around 350 or better @ flywheel, with streetable compression
