There are a couple of choices. The good ole Shelby type welds or bolts to the floor then attaches to the inside upper corners. Unless its an R modle type, its a single bar (no crossmember). It allows access to the back seats and is pretty much out of the way. The other mounts in multiple locations. These offer much better protection in case of a rollover and are normally required for racing. Another good point is, ifa 6 point if done correctly, itwill also relieve a lot of the unibody flex, similar to sub-frame connectors. You will notice an immediate difference when you drive. One disadvantage is, the 6 points usually run on the sides of the dash and into the floor board. This hinders entering and exiting the vehicle, more so if you have big feet. I think either is a good safety investment. I would also install shoulder harnesses if you do a 6 point.

Experience talking here.....go to a race shop and have them build one for your car. It will be easier, it will be better (YOU can chose tube diameter and wall thickness), it will be safer, it most likely will be less expensive. It will fit better.

i just have a bar...no cage. i need a cross bar so i can mount my harnesses at the right height, let me find a picture:

you have to look at the edges of the icture but you can see it, my shoulder harnesses are mounted from it from up top, it follows the roof line. i dont wear them and i wont until i get teh cross bar [8D]
