Is there a roll cage that can be bolted in easily just before you go auto crossing?...

But fortunately, it's a rare occurrence. Some years ago, a local driver in a Philly area event rolled a certain narrowish FWD car that has a known tendency to lift the inside rear wheel when he got it all crossed up trying to salvage a bad run. Got his arm broke when it went out the window, IIRC.
Even mythumbnail car is getting pretty light on the inside two on a track width that's four inches or so wider than that of a '66. Although it's not likely to go much further on clear pavement, a pothole or bad rut could make things, ummm, exciting.
If you're serious enough about auto-X to be considering a cage, you need to investigate the rules, as there are a few requirements that may not be obvious. Removable roll bars are mentioned in the Solo rules (SCCA) but cages appear to fall back on the GCR's (rules for wheel to wheel competition). Some classes require bolt-in, others permit weld-in. Etc.

Doesn't look like a quick bolt in to me. Personally, I think you guys are nuts for using a perfectly good classic mustang for auto cross, when you could get an old FE motored Ford for a bunch less and not tear up a classic. Rip out the entire enterior, tub the rear quarters. put some wide assed tires on there and put in a permanent roll cage and only auto cross it. No need for insurance or tags.
Actually, the classic Mustangs look like they'd offer a weight distribution advantage over many of its potential competition. There might even be a couple more potential advantages. Personally, I'd go nuts if I couldn't legally drive the hottest car in the stable any time and any placeI wanted to.

Jegs has an interesting set-up in their catalog I found. They have 4, 8, 10 and 12 point set-ups. Anyone use one? The cost is pretty compelling. Although I understand that this may not be the place to save a buck.
