The porting was the same but I think the 4-barrel had a smaller combustion chamber. Performance will depend on how well you tune it.

Yeah, the A code heads have a slightly smaller combustion chamber. Putting a 4 barrel carb on a C code engine won't give you much benefit.

Bull-puckey. There is no difference between two barrel and four barrel heads on a 289 CID engine. Compression ratios were determined by piston height, combustion chambers were the same, valves were the same, the heads were identical. Now, there were different combustion chambers for different years, but those heads were used interchangably for that years models.

165's, but canfield 170's or the smaller RHS heads would be better IMO.

165 will be all you need in a 289. 185's would be better off in a similarly built 331 - 347, and 205's way too much for the little motor (can you say "lazy flow"?).

http://www.canfieldheads.com/sbf_standard_intake.htm (170cc runners)

<~~~ owned by comp cams btw (180cc runners)

and of course there is always the gt40p's from tristatecylinderhead for 600 bucks a pair which would flow excellent for your motor without being too big.
