what is one cheap performance part for a 1972 mustang fastback, with a 351. A part that will put on alot of horsepower

ummmmmmmm

start with a basic tune up (new points, rotor, cap, wires, plugs, oil change etc)

then if you want more, a carb, then intake, headers, cam, heads
pretty much in that order

More power = more dollars. How much money have you got to spend and what else needs doing to the car?

If you are looking for a quick upgrade, you can usuallyget more noticable launch improvements cheaper from changing rear gearing.

Dont just start randomly throwing parts on ... It is not at all worth it .

Sit down , Do some reasearch .. And Think of a goal , And plan it out . YOU NEED a Master PLAN! its worth it ,

Otherwise ... Might as well throw your walllet at your car.

Dont rush it , Your mustang has lived this long , and im sure you'll have plenty of time to restore it...

Talk to us about what you want .. what your looking for .. Some pics would be good ...

And we can help you out .

+1 takeout

$2k wont get you too far, so a plan of what really needs to be done and what you would like to do as/when finances permit is a really good idea.

given your budget, i stand by my first comment. you'll get better bang for your buck changing the rear gearing than tacking performance bits in and on an old engine. I would go no further than carb/manifold/headers without proper rebuild. been there, done that and in the end some non-performing old part lets you down and costs you more in the long run.

good luck
