I am a ways off but i am toying with trading the i6 for a 289. my question is, Will my c4 work with a v8 or do i need a c4 that is v8 specific?

There is only one C4, so you are good to go. You can beef up that C4 if you are going to get a really hot V8, but otherwise not a problem. You will need to replace the front and rear suspension though.

I keep swinging back and forth... stock or not... i plan on rebuilding or replacing everything anyway so, i don't know if it will matter cost wise...

If you upgrade to a V8 is is very expensive even though you do the work yourself. Especially if you are a teenager or hungry college student. Do some soul searching and find out what your monetary limits will allow before you decide. Those 6 bangers will legally get you from point A to point B just as fast as a V8 unless you take her to the track.

I agree with what Soaring said but would like to add, keep in mind that the bell housing for the V8 and I6 are different so to use your C4 you will need the correct bell. the problem is that most of the bellhousings are attached to transmissions so the trick will be to find a V8 bellhousing with out having to buy an entire C4.
