Fuel Cut Off
I did a search and this wasn't covered very well. My car is getting painted and when it comes back it will be worth some money so I want to protect it as best as I can. So the question is...
How can I hook up an electronically controlled fuel cut-off switch, preferrably near the fuel pump. Reason being is if its at the gas tank, they will have plenty of gas to drive it into a trailer and off she goes. But if the cut off is before the pump the car will only run for 5 seconds or so.
So my ideal setup would be a cut off valve that can be activated electronically, in the hard or soft line before the fuel pump. I would want to run the wire to a sneaky place in the interior... one idea is the ashtray. I have a new mechanical fuel pump so hopefully I won't need a new electronic fuel pump to get this setup to work.
Any help or ideas are appreciated, thanks in advance!

an electric fuel switch in the line is possible but would be obvious when said thief peers under the hood.
I have an ignition kill switch...wired so the engine turns over but no spark gets to the diz.
switch is hidden in the car (could tell you where but then i'd have to kill you
)

). I don't like the batter cut off's because then I can't use my alarm system... unless i hooked it up direct feed on the batter before the cut off.Yeah I thought about how someone can look at it under the hood. But one thing i was thinking of doing is putting it on the hard line under the fender/on the fender apron where it can't be seen! Not sure how this would work, cutting into a fuel line isn't the best idea. But still an idea at that.
There is a manual cut-off in the trunk of my Mach1, and I suppose that could be made into an electronic shut-off. It's right above the electric fuel pump, so not much gas will get to the engine, but on the mechanical one, the thief will see it under the hood and route around it in a New York minute. There are some simple things you can do to prevent theft for the average thief, but when it comes to the hard core thief, they have the goods on you.

i use this http://www.12voltguy.com/theftswitch.htm it has a switch thats a key pull the key out it wont start. there many ways to stop a theft but you cant stop a tow truck always have good insurance incase it does it get stolen.if you have a auto and stock shifter they sell a locking t handle you can lock it in park.
I know that if someone wants my car real bad and are pro's they can take it simply. But I still want to detere as many potential theifs as I can through many steps of security such as the club, nice alarm system, ignition or fuel cut off, etc.
andrewmp6, I do have an auto so that locking t handle idea sounds pretty good. Have any idea where I can get one? Also that kit, how exactly does it work? The toggle switch has a key so you can lock it from being switched back? From the link it looks like it cuts off the power right at the starter, so then I would still have power to the wiring harness and therefore my alarm system.
Thanks guys, keep it coming!

take your ign lead and split it and run it to an RTO switch (return to off) switch. This way you have to turn the ignition key AND hold the button at the same time to start the car. The switch completes the continuity to the starter relay. I've seen inventive places for the switch: converted high beam switch, cigarette lighter, mini switch below trim, etc. The fuel cut off still lets the engine burn what ever fuel is in the float bowl or EFI rail which will get the car started, and around the corner.
i paid a sparky to do it. my electric skills are limited to wiring in a set of driving lights or a stereo and thats about it.
as the others say, its not going to stop a serious player, but it will make their job harder. the wiring is hidden in existing looms so its not easy to pick and from memory it is either a coil or diz feed or breaking the earth. anyone with electrics skills could do it. you can a similar thing as a kit with a pad switch that you hide under the carpet in a location of your choosing.

groho, I like it, like it a lot. Where would I be able to find a "RTO switch"? I would like to check it out online to try to figure out the best way to go about whatever way I choose. So it's my understanding that this switch just breaks the connection that engages the ignition, so when you hold the button the connection is complete and the key will be able to start the car. Correct? Very cool.

Any switch that returns to anoff position when not in useis considered RTO, the key is to find a spring loaded switch that only has continuity when you press it, and returns to an off position when you release it. pepboys, autozone, etc, all have kill switches that screws innicely tothe back of a converted cigarette lighter with a little bit of cutting and simple fabricating. You can also convert your high beam switch by only using one position for the necessary continuity, and leaving the other position open. The nice part about these switches, is there ability to be concealed in normal places. If you also look in the electricalsection you'll see varying sizes of mini switches. Need to find a good 20A switch so you don't short anything out. Another alternative is Radioshack.
