Tradition dictates the use of the pickle fork. The prefered method is with the nut almost completly off, give a couple of solid whacks (a technical term) on the side of the center link, not the end of the tapered fitting, and all shall be well. Method 2 is to pound the turned upside-down nut on theend of the tapered fitting with some type of support on the center link.

i agree jim but not with hittin the upside down nut cause than can get you in a big mess also ive mushroomed a few that way till i started using the shock and fall method
