Default Instrument panel lights

Does anyone know if the instrument panel lights have an assembly that can be replaced? My reoccuring problem is that half of my panel is dimmer than the other and, while driving, the weaker half will just fade to blackness.

I have had it looked at twice and the bulbs are all working. Is there a seperate light assembly that cna be replaced? We juts can't figue put what he problem is.

Any suggestions?

you might be looking in the wrong place. use a jumper if possible and apply 12V direct to power side feeding the instrument light to make sure it's good. They should stay solid. I would think the dimmer portion of the light switch would be suspect suspect.

Isn't there a resistor or something on the back of the dash on the plastic grid? Not sure it has anything to do with the panel lights but it might be something to look into

I had the same problem with my 70; I replaced the circuit board on the back and it fixed it.

First, what year car. I stopped reading minds years ago. Different years have different problems.
Common problems.
Second - there is a ground wire from the instrument panel wiring to the dash structure that is prone to giving problems.
- Solution - Remove wire, clean terminal, screw and dash metal where it attaches. Add an external tooth lock washer for better contact.
Third - the wire wound resistor in the headlight switch gets worn out.
- Solution -Replace the switch.

Had a similar dimming dash light problem in my 66 Coupe. Replaced the headlight switch & works great now. Cost less than $20 for a new switch.
