Default Autolite 4100

I am burning very rich starting up with lots of black soot. I installed the right jets, lowered the float level a bit and adjusted the choke. It is still blowing black soot when started and some reduced soot as the engine warms up. Anything I can check to solve this problem? Possibly the choke linkage is holding the throttle open that needs some type of adjustment. This is on a 66 GT. Anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks,

Mike

Don't know what the black soot means, but, do you also have a strong smell of fuel? If so, lean out the idle mixture.General bench adjustment is to turn the mixture screws all the way in and then back out 1 1/2 turns. Then fine tune.If you have a shop manual, I would got throught the set up procedures.
