cam question
As far as the Summit cam/valvetrain stuff, I've heard that it's manufactured by Crane. And I wouldn't use new lifters on a used flat tappet cam since the lifters and lobes wear together, then you're mixing a worn lobe with an unworn lifter and it may put excess force on some spots and eat it up. But I've heard of people doing it and being fine. Another reason I like roller cams, ain't gotta worry about stuff like that
I'd go with the Crane grind. It's similar to the one I'm running. It's a dual pattern with a bit wider lobe seperation so it'll make good torque everywhere and drive well on the street, but still make good top end power. Broad torque. The Comp grids would be good too, but since they're single pattern with tighter lobe seperation it'll make a bit more peak power, but won't have as broad a power range as the crane grind would. That Crane grind with some good heads will make plenty of power. And hydraulic roller conversion cams are quite a bit pricier, just so you know. You'll spend a fair chunk on conversion lifters, but again, I think the benefits of roller cams outweigh the costs.
