My momsaw a mustang near my aunts house for sale. My mom is really interested in it. I gaurantee that she would give it to me eventually. We got the phone number, and she wants to call and ask about it. Can you guys give me a list of all the things we should ask them about please?

hmm... one major concern for that year i would ask is to look under the carpet for rust in the floorpans. if so then make sure its not leaking through the cowl vent. check the torque boxes and anything basically that will rust overtime under the car. and look at the panels very well for rust. its very easy to hide rust to sell a car. take a magnet and check for bondo

another thing to look for is smoke come from the exhaust when he starts the motor, look at the motor see if there are any leaks. if you can look under the car and see if there is any rust that IMO is the most important... soring said it best
Looks can be deceiving. When you go to look at it again, take some pictures of the engine bay, interior, and especially the front bottom corner of the doors and the bottom of the rear quarter panel (fender). Take a kitchen refrigerator magnet with you and see if it will stick to the car in several places and especially the places mentioned. If it doesn't stick, then that area has been repaired with Bondo so you know it has been wrecked. Take a look underneath and observe how much rust you see under the car. Pour a gallon jug of water in the cowl opening (The grille just in front of the windshield) and see if the water runs onto the floorboard inside the car. Start the car and observe if any smoke comes out the back. The 60,000 miles may be a true figure, but probably not. The odometer on these old cars went back to zero after they rolled past 100K, so more than likely it has 160,000 miles on it. Listen for any noises while it is running and make a note of what they sound like and where they are coming from. Drive it......How does it feel? Is the front end tight, or mushy? How does the engine sound and perform?

find a mustang club close to you google your city name and mustang club or state if you have to. find there website youll see a email addresse on there email them and tell them you love mustangs and want a classic one bad but need some help to look one over.most mustang club members know alot just like the guys on here. also as them if they know a good mechainc you can trust with your have that guy look it over too.if theres alot of rust like huge holes walk away from it rust gets pricey to fix.good luck hope you find a nice one and enjoy it.

That quote sounds familiar.

+1. That is what i have done with all the cars i have looked at. This is a pretty good way of telling if it is worth what they say.
