checking the cowl ?
i read in another posting ... something about the cowl... soaring said that when looking at a possible buy check the cowl by pooring a gallon of water over it.... so real quick if the cowl is good the water will run out of the car from where... and if it is bad it will run into the car?
If it's good, it will run out behind the fenders between the front of the door and the rear of the wheel opening. The cowl has a small dump on each side where the water escapes. If it's bad, typically it's rusted around the vent "hats" on either side of the dash. Look up under on the driver's side where the air vent is bolted to the cowl, and on the pass side behind the glovebox where the heater box is bolted to the cowl. Either of these could allow water to run down the firewall and onto the floor.
