Goodbye all
Ok, so glen is gone. May I suggest that the powers that be try and find another mod who is well versed in relatively un-modded classics? While I can understand that highly modded mustangs appeal to many, it doesnt to me. I can appreciate peole putting EFI in a mustang and even put wings on it if they want, but to keep the faction of us who doesnt want a highly modded car, its tough to be a part of this site unless we have someone with the knowledge base of keeping it original and frequently posting,
Let,s move on, folks. It sucks if you liked glen, but its his choice to post or not post anymore. I wish he would post, but in the meantime, we need someone who represents classics. No offense to the current mod, who i think is doing a good job, but we just don't have much in common when it comes to our cars. We be nice to have a good balance in classics between restomods and non-restomods.

So are you saying you want another moderator, or just another member to "step up" and fill Glen's shoes as a restoration guru, while James W holds down the restomod side of things? Its going to be hard to replace the knowledge Glen has if he does decide that he does not want to post here anymore, but there are other members that are knowledgeable when it comes to "stock" parts on our classics, just ask questions and you will, more often than not, get answers.
you guys miss the point that a moderator doesnt have to have any specific feelings towards these cars. they are moderators to patrol the section, to keep things running smoothly (moving spam or flaming posts, etc).
it kinda irks me that i made myself sound like i was bashing glen in the process of me defending the staffs decision on this matter - that was not my goal. i did NOT want to see glen removed, i really didnt. also, maybe i shouldnt have brought down a few posts from the mod section, but i did to show the people that didnt want to believe glen wasnt being a "team player" so to speak.
in the end, i am sad to see glen is not a mod. i will be even more upset by this whole thing if he chooses to leave the group entirely....... because as someone else has already said, the love of the cars is whats supposed to keep you around, not the power of being a mod.

I agree that Soaring may not be the best moderator, and I respect the decision of the other mods. The mods are being compared to police, the police tell me to slow down or to wear my seatbelt not that they don't like the car that I drive. For that reason I think he should step down.
I don't know the rest of the story, and don't care to.
I DOhope that Soaring stays here to share his knowledge. It would be a shame to lose him.
Glen, stay for your love of the Mustang. You don't need to be a moderator to be a big help to the forum.

norm,
i believe everyone here could be considered "big boys" (well, almost everyone here
), and as such can form their own opinions on what their plans are for their cars..... we are all old enough to know what we want.
i also believe that if there is any "leaning" towards a certain direction as to restoration, it will be due to the group as a whole and not because of one or two moderators.
personally, if i had a "special" classic i would want to keep it original. something like a BOSS 302, BOSS 429, Shelby, maybe even a mach 1 - but if it were a "regular" classic i would not feel as bad about doing certain mods. on a more personal level my II was a sixxer and when im done will be kinda sorta a cobra clone - but eventually i would like to find a 78 king cobra t-top car and i would restore that to being original because of what it is.
anyways, theres my take on the whole resto-mod thing - which again, was not why soaring left as a mod.

so norm, youre concerned that JamesW, or whoever else joins the MF staff to moderate this section will begin insulting members who decide to keep the stock seats, wheels, or engine components? i would be surprised, to say the least, although that had become common from glen. Again, we arent looking for moderators who dont have opinions, but more so, we are looking for moderators who are willing to work a part of a team, and who can voice their opinion with some tact.
hornblower, im sorry that my attempts to keep this thread civil arent to your liking, but i have left it open (even when asked to close it by several members) specifically for the purpose of continuing the discussion. my "threats" were an attempt to keep the discussion calm.
As this site has grown, many of our more active sections have gotten more than one moderator, as we (the admin) cannot possibly expect volunteers to be here every waking moment, so we like to have multiple moderators in place so that there is a better chance of having one online all of the time. Glen chose to view adding a moderator to his section as an insult, even though our cause for doing so was some personal issues in glens life which caused him to disappear fora few days, months ago. We then began looking for additional moderators for this section, and JamesW was chosen partially because he is a restomod guy. Soaring was not at all a fan of that style of mustang, so having James on board would allow for a "voice" for the restomod guys. Lately, we were continuing to consideradditional moderators for this section, with which glen was helping.
There are still several people being considered, some of which were with glen's recommendations, and with his decision to leave, there will obviously be someone added in the coming weeks.
My inbox is still open, for anyone who wants to discuss this further.

I'm a newbie on this site but I don't have a problem saying that I won't particularly miss him if he's gone. Didn't exactly get a warm welcome from him, more attitude than anything else and that tends to lead to less posting by members who may feel intimidated by it. Sometimes it's good to take a break and get some perspective.

I'm not sure that it's possible to moderate without introducing some of your own slant to things.

If they also want to be a contributing member, then that's great. But every other comment(not related tokeep order and inforcing the rules) thata mod makes should weighno more than anything any other member says. Thus, they're "slant on things" is no more important that any other member's slant.

I'm not sure that it's possible to moderate without introducing some of your own slant to things. And just like in a newspaper or magazine editorial, how something is said is frequently at least as important as what is said. Or what isn't said at all. Since none of us are machines or work by pure cold logic alone, an effect to the overall character that a forum takes on is inevitable. There is some concern that this forum could end up leaning a little too far in the pro-modify direction.

My point is that changes happen here with the staff. I'm sure that another Classic Section Moderator (or two) will be "hired" to spread the workload in terms of managing the section (removing SPAM, stopping conflicts, etc). But it might be best to let things settle before the Admins look over members' resumes. Findinga replacement (or two) for "Glen the Moderator" will not be difficult - he/they will be chosen from the Classic ranks. Hopefully, "Glen the Tech" will hangaround so the rest of the members are not forced to fill those shoes in his absence.
