Fuel Readings
I'm having a problem with finding the correct levels of fuel I have. My fuel gauge will read 3/4 when the tank is full, although it will sometimes bounce up to full. But when I get down around a half of a tank it will read near empty. My car had a new fuel sending unit put in in 2006 and I just replaced the gauges. What do you guys think it is? Is it the gauge or is it the sending unit? Thanks in advance.
If the sending unit is working and the gauges are working, then it may be a problem with the wire linking the sending unit and the gauge. I've got a similar problem I'm going to try and get worked out by replacing the sending unit. Apparently from what I've read, if you get under the car on the back of the fuel tank whgere the sending unit it, and disconnect the wire, then turn the key the gas gauge should read nothing, then ground that wire by using another wire and touch it to bare metal somewhere else on the car to ground it, and it should read full. If that happens the problem will be the sending unit, if it doesn't then it's either somewhere in the wire or the gauge.
