Rally Stripes ?
I would only use decals if you are unsure if you really want the stripes or not. Other than that, paint them on.
Oneproblem with the decals is that if you get moisture under there and the paint under it will come off. Another problem is that if you remove them, you will find that your paint has faded and you can still tell where they were.

I'd paint the panels the color of the stripes first. Then I'd tape off (cover up) the places you want to be striped, and then pain then rest of the car the color you want it. So in the case of the car in your signature, I'd spray some white on the hood, roof, and trunk. Then tape it off and paint the whole car red.

Are there advantages by doing it this way as opposed to painting the car the primary color first then masking the car for the stripes?

If youdo the stripes last then you've got a ton of primary color to cover up and you're far more likely to get some overspray where you don't want it.
well if you really want stripes do paint them on.
The vinyl stickers only last about 2 years before they crack and look crappy. Then you have to use a drill and a rubber wheel to take them off and its not fun.
