Default '69 THROTTLE PROBLEM

Ever since the carburetor has been changed in my 69 CJ (4 years ago), around 3,000-3,200 rpm’s the throttle has been sticking. It was a stock carburetor, but it was changed it to a Holley 850, I was wondering why this could be. I didn’t know if the linkage or anything along those lines could need to be changed because of the new carburetor. Is the return spring the only thing could cause this problem?

I have a throttle problem too. Every time I get into my mustang, It wants to go like hell.

You could get a bigger return spring. Could it be the carb.?

Try a 2nd, but light spring from the front, attach to a valve cover bolt...

Check to see if any of the linkage got bent while putting on the new carb. Also, try some spray lubricant on all the moving sections to see if that will free it up. Spray silicone is good for these kind of things.

After I made this post I went to check out the return spring. It seems to be in decent shape, and when I thought about it, the only way to get the car back to idle was to quickly hit and release the throttle. When I did this the throttle went back to the idle possession but it still was at the high RPM’s. This definitely means that the problem is in the carburetor itself. Thanks for the help anyway.

Are you using a stock manifold or a stock carb spacer? If so, the larger throttle blades on that 850 may be rubbing on the spacer or manifold.

The car has a stock 428 intake, but soon its going to get a medium rise 427 aluminum intake. when the intake gets changed ill look to seee if the blades are rubbing.

How about the choke butterfly? Is it open all the way when hot?
