If hes a really good friend in the family he should at least sell it to you cheaper than he would to anyone else .

he has it listed for 6900 i would probably offer about 5500 at first so you will compromise like at 5800 or so ..
or at least hope so Nice engine!!

And with some few mods that car will be banging!! just get a custom valence like the one in my other post . get rid of the bumper that crooked or so it seems . some nice rims and lift that rear suspension . and your all set once that engine is in!

Hey, I live in Katy an I am helping my son rebuild a 1970 fastback. Well, even though it is not a fastback I would say go for it as long as you don't plan to make money your investment. It can still be a fun car to drive. Even as a rust free coupe, it is still a six banger and it will still cost you a bit to put the 8 cylinder in it. The motor and tranny look great but how long have they been sittin? A new 302 will run you around $1000 bucks if you look around (We got ours for $650). A rebuilt C4 you can get for even less. If you plan on putting the 302 and the C4 in you will have to do the following;
Replace front suspension
Replace brake master cylinder and proportioning valve
Replace driveshaft
Replace rearend (maybe)
Replace motor and transmission mounts.
Might need to replace the shifter

Heck, I would just put a turbo on that six banger.

Anyways, PM me when you get a car, I would love to see someone else's project up close.

also since its a six banger your probably going to have to swap your 4 lugs to 5 lugs and while your at it , It definitely worth it to go disk out front .

you can find kits for about 300-400 for a pair out front .

in the back you dont have to worry about disk as long as you have 5 lugs

My son paid 4,000 for his six, it was very clean and fully operational except for brakes.....

IMO it was as close to 100% rust free as I think is possible for a 40 year old car...

Shop around, you may find that it is worth a trip to the desert.....

A couple of these do not have reserves.....

It's 4 lug, drum all around. I plan to do the disc swap absolutely first (which will take care of the master cyl as well). For the rear, either I'll live with it for a while, or maybe redrill the axles for 5 lug.

I plan on a couple of years to get this done, not trying to make any money on the project (as if anyone ever really does).

well if that engine is going in, you automatically need that new rear end because that 7.25 i think will not hold up .

and when you swap out the rear end , If you buy it altogether im sure you can get a used one thats a 9inch rear for about 300 bucks
with 5 lugs already

Just keep in mind , That its all going to happen like a chain reaction , you cant have some components on without the others ...Its either all of it or none of it .

make a list! , that should help out .

Ya know, the more I think about it. You can replace the whole front end with a Heidt's IFS for a couple grand if you do it yourself.
It would require some welding. They also have a rack and pinion kit available. But you can completely remove the shock towers after that and you would have room to do whatever you wanted.
Then you can get a used rearend and axle for pretty cheap. Also, any Mustang parts you need are available here in Katy at Mustang Mania.
They are very knowledgable and have many donor cars onsite for other parts.
