rear main seal?

Default rear main seal?

i have leakage out of a 302 in a 65 mustang...the leaking is droppin on the starter an down the starter and also on th side of the oil pan ....could it be the rear main seal? or the oil pan gasket? how cani detect if its the rear main seal..shouldnt the drippin be running down the front of the tranny down the middle?

Sounds like the valve cover gasket. Best thing to do is clean the area off as best you can and watch for new wet areas to form.

i have cleaned of the area and it sitll dripps ontop of the starter and the side of the starter closest to the pan....you think its the ooil pan gasket...or the rear main seal?..... as for the valve covers.. i have brand new rubber gaskets.. should i get cork and put silicone?

I had a leak that was similar to yours and it turned out to be my valve cover gasket. I went back with rubber though and everything turned out fine.

Had the same exact problem last weekend. New Fel Pro gasket leaked at the back of the valve cover just above the #4 header . Driped right on the starter. If you GLUE the gaskets down use a black flexable sealer. The red high temp works great but looks like CR@p if a little squezes out .

hmmmmm.... so should i stick with the new rubber gaskets.. or cork gaskets..... and because the ones i have now are new.....

If they are new rubber, just try to R&R the gasket again with some new RTV.
