351 Running Sluggish
Not really much, but with your hard shift, I might think that the transmission vacuum line may not be attached, in one of the photos I saw a plugged vacuum line toward the back of the engine,,,,
Also, it appears that there is a hole drilled in the top of your air cleaner??? If this is so you should plug the hole, as it will let unfiltered air into your engine.
Those old Autolite 2 bbls run pretty good, good enough that you should feel some seat of the pants power, something is not right, the challenge is figuring out just what the problem is.

I can remember when I could get a turbo 400 rebuilt for $400. (early 90s)... I guess those days are gone, but $1,200,,, wow...
well that number could be way off... the old man who owned it before me had it done he was like 80 so they might have ripped him off. i no longer have that piece of crap truck so i dont know for sure. or i could be totally thinking of something else which is probably the case, i have a terrible memory lol
I called ammco and they told me it would be 1500, my mechanic said 1200, and another transmission specialist place said 650 but I didnt tell them I need to get it taken out of the car also.
Those prices seem very steep.

I dont think its my tranny, I hit the gas pretty hard several times today and no slipping at all and the car took off good. It seems that i can take off pretty good but it just doesn't have feeling like your taking off, were you get pushed into your seat. I think the other day when I thought the tranny was slipping I think my tires were spinning because it just got done raining and it was the first rain of the season
.
I guess to get that feeling I have to get a 4 barrel carb and new intake right?

Have a drive in someone elses car and compare it to yours. If you dont know anyone, go to a yard and test drive one thats for sale.
I don't want to be rude, but if you cant tell the difference between tires spining and a slipping trans, Im not sure this gig is for you yet. I know everyone has to start some where, but running around getting quotes for rebuilds whenh you don't need it etc is going to cost you.
Find someone who know about cars and learn from them, on your car. The internet is great, but its a poor substitute to having a knowledgeable person to help you on your car.
I'd even recommend doing a course, or at least reading some auto books, to get you basic knowledge up, before asking questions here. The guys here can be a lot of help, but trying to decifer a problem through a computer screen, when you don't have the knowledge to ask the right questions is very hard.
Check up the top, there are some FAQ that can be helpful, you just have to spend some time reading.

The 351 Cleveland 2v with the FMX tranny and 2.75 gears is very slow up to 30 mph and then it starts to move better. That is what my car had when I got it. Everything beat me off the line. On the highway can you pass other cars easily? If it seems to run ok on the highway you may look into getting different gears in the rear end. Maybe 3.55s.
When I got my car everyone thought it would be a lot faster than it was.
