ya thats an odd angle but it is in just like that. when you say take it out and see if it cools you mean right after I run it to see if it opens up? because i tried putting it in again and watched it overheat and the intake manifold, before the thermostat, feels very hot but the radiator tubbing out of the thermostat feels suprisingly cold. I tested my thermostat out of the car and it opens up at 180 degrees farenheit like its supposed to. So im thinking maybe i need one that opens earlier? I dont know
Throw the stat in a pot of boiling water and see if it opens. It is entirely possible that it's junk out of the box, had that prob before. I know it's the second one you've tried, but I'd check it anyway just to eliminate the possibility.
Maybe you're getting an air lock in the systyem. Just a thought.
Now, that is a possibility. Try "burping" the system. Take off the cap and let her run at idle until all the bubbles are gone. (It has to get hot enough for the thermostat to open) It seems to me though, that if the thermostat is in properly, and it works, then it should be cooling. But, you say it runs cool without the thermostat. Hmmmmm. I would suspicion the thermostat itself under those conditions.
yesterday i got it working and you guys got it right it was the air lock i needed to leave the cap off for a while so that it would cool down. thanks for all the help
