I pay $67/month for myself and my wife (65 fastback). I too have State farm and gave them the estimate for replacement value. I will be getting an appraisal soon. Anyone know who to contact for something like this?

I know this is contrary to jaded , but my state farm agent said as long as the car does not have the motor or tranny in it, then it would be included under my home owners personal property (depending on the limits of personal property). Once I dropped the engine and tranny in, I had to insure as a vehicle.

Alot of the payouts determine whos at fault. For instance in most states, if you are not at fault the other drivers property damage coverage should take care of your damages back to equal of where you were. If you are at fault (especially a total) it is strictly a negotiation game. Not only will they negotiate a price, but they will then take your vehicle and auction it off (in a total). There are so many variables within each accident/claim.

My 68 200ci coupe got totaled out and I got $6300 for it, and that was after the $1000 deductible. I have 21 century but I also pay about $700 for 6 months (then again I've only been driving for 3 years so that's probably why). What I did was I gave them all of the recipts for the parts and work done on it and then some dude came out and had this list and would mark off whether it was excellent, good, fair, or poor. It was mainly the interior they graded because the rest of the car was smashed to pieces. They also compared it to other 68 mustangs and the amount for a really good condition 68 6 cyl. was about $7000. Then I talked to them after I got my 66 because all I had was comprehensive on my 68 and I was looking into getting collision, BUUT they said It all depends on your agent and how much work they want to go through. So I don't know, I know with some insurance companies if you get your car apprased and have it documented and all that they really can't get around it. That was my experience.

I use Hagerty for my 68 conmvertible which is highly modified. I still have to have it painted and they have a stated value on it of $25k. I will be able to increase the coverage on it to the fair market value once it is painted and reassembled. It costs me about $250 per year. I rarely drive the car (actually haven't driven it in 3 years because of the build)so it works out perfect for me. I would recommend talking with them. You will have mileage and usage restrictions that you may not have with an Allstate or Farmers but the price will be 1/3 as much. The restrictions won't really affect how I use my car but if you have it adaily driver you may not want to go this way.

FYI, Since I am close to completion on my restor I called my agent again (StateFarm). He stated the Insurance will be based on the value I set, but if/when the time comes for payout I would have to validate/prove the value. He advised to have an appraisal done now and there wont be any questions if/when the time comes. I am with SF because it will be a daily driver.

As 68EFI mentioned, the classics insurance is a good way to go IF you meet their restrictions. Be sure to check those out.

I use Sneed out of Memphis. You insure your car based onthe value that you decide, no mileage limits. They require photos, $500 deductible with full replacement costs based on what you decided the value was. Not too expensive. Seems like its around $160 per yr for $6500 coverage on a 66 FB. It may be worth your while to contact them. Don't have the number but Google Sneed and see what you get. Good Luck.

I have Insurance discounters and they charge me $30 a month for full coverage for a value of $10000 if its totaled and also uninsured motorist. I live in Texas and we have an illegal alien problem so you have to have uninsured motorist just incase one runs into you then they get a lawyer and sue you. It has happened to me before so I never leave home without full insurance on my vehicle.

You should check out a classic car insurance company. My car is insured by Hagerty. Some restrictions on the car usage, but a very fair price - about $200 a year with a $35,000 value.
