Default Is there an alternative to replacing entire dash wiring harness?

My electric is a nightmare. Things were working pretty good until recently. Not working: Fuel gauge, Aftermarket Tach, right turn signal indicator, bezel lights are hit n miss.
Working: Aftermarket temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, left turn signal indicator.

I have been working on the electrical issues myself, which is probably a mistake in itself. But at any rate, everything was working well (except for the right turn signal indicator light) until I started messing with it. I have a couple of wiring diagrams but I have not been able to pinpoint the source of electricity for the assembly that sends power to all of these things.

My wiring is such a mess that I have contemplated buying an entire new harness but I would prefer to avoid spending the $700 or so that this would cost me. I have a feeling that a "fix" would not be that difficult. Does anyone have a simple idea of how to fix these issues?

Thanks for your thoughts and time on this one.
Cheers!

Luke,

I thought they made just the dash harness, but I can not find one. I did find this link that would give you most of what you need and a lot of other wiring for a fair price. I eneded up going with the painless system, but I was in a full restore and did everything. Also in the FAQ section there are some good links to diagrams that I used. Sorry I couldnt be more help.

Thats a really good deal for a complete harness, if it works. I paid $500 for my Painless kit.

I went with a Ron Francis kit. I think the basic kit is less than$450. Now I also got a matching toggle switch, convertible top harness, grommet kit, and a remote system shutdown for security. This kit looks awesome, now I have not installed it yet so I will let everyone know how that goes. Seems pretty easy.

Maybe the problem is the little dash voltage regulator. It is the thing that controls the voltage to all the dash lights, and guages. that may be your problem..

+1 that was my exact thought as well.

If this fails, you may be able to un-wrap the dash harness, inspect it, repair it, clean it up, and re-wrap it. You might try this while leaving it mostly hooked up, and only actually unhooking a section or so at a time, as needed, so you always know where you are at and where things go.

By doing this, you will know what you have, and you can clean things up a lot. Chances are your harness is good, but just ugly, and maybe a little hacked up due to past "repairs". Unless it is really, really, bad, they can usually be repaired.

We put a RF kit in the 66, it has performed flawlessly... It is pretty easy. When you install your kit you will need to save the harness that runs your heater, fan, and wipers. The kit will not have provisions for these items. but it is pretty easy to make these work.

I used an aftermarket dash, so I did not have issues with guages etc., but I am sure that you will need to retain (or rebuild) much of the guage harness and the dash regulator if you intend on using your stock guages.

Thanks for all of these suggestions guys. I really appreciate it.
I am going to get in there later today and see if I can make a decision on what needs to be done.
I will keep ya posted on what happens!
Thanks again, y'all.
Cheers!
