Stupid Question about Plastic Cowl Cover
Hey all,
I just bought a plastic cowl cover to put on my Mustang to try to keep leaves and water from getting in there during the winter. I am just wondering if I can drive with the cover on or if the cowl needs to be uncovered when I am cruising around. I know it sounds stupid, but I dont fully understand the function of the cowl. Is it just for the ventilation to the inside of the car?
Thanks in advance for not tearing me a new one!

RE: Stupid Question about Plastic Cowl Cover
the cowl sucks air for the heat and you got a vent down on the driverside under the dash for fresh air.you can drive it with the cover on but take it off if you use the heat. or get a vintage air heat and ac unit you can weld the cowl shut then.if you want a nicer cowl cover try http://www.ringbrothers.com/19671968...s-p-33172.html they are pricey and let water in but as long as your dran lines are clear water isnt the problem its leafs and drift that clog them.

Thanks for this info Andrew.
I dont expect that I will get a lot of leaves in there but I know for a fact that a few have snuck in. Do you know of any easy ways to make sure that the drain lines are clear? Or get the leaves out of there?
Thanks.

RE: Stupid Question about Plastic Cowl Cover
if i remember right theres a drain on both sides dumps down behide where the fender and door mets on both sides i think you got to take the fenders off to see them.only thing i learned to cleaning out drain holes is straighten out a metal coat hanger and push it up them to loose any gunk in them. unless your floor board is wet after it rains or carwash it should be draining fine could pour water down it see where it comes out at.

RE: Stupid Question about Plastic Cowl Cover
Thanks Andrew.
I will try that out, putting some water in there. I think drainage is not really an issue at this point but I am just trying to be cautious. And where I have been parking it lately, a few leaves have been finding their way into the cowl.
I also checked out the cowl covers from Ring Brothers. Yeah, definitely not cheap. I wonder what the profit margin is on those things!?! But they are definitely a quality product. Thanks for the help on this one.
'Preciate it.

RE: Stupid Question about Plastic Cowl Cover
I have had my Magnetic Cowl Cover for sale in the National Parts Depot catalog for the last 6-7 years. I started making them in my garage and on a lark sent one to NPD and voila!
For legal purposes I must say that it is not designed to leave in place while the car is in motion.

Don't try to use the windshield washer fluid if you have the cowl cover on.
