A Newb question....

Are all carbureted (probably spelled wrong) cars so hard to start? I've found that i have to pump it twice, start it, rev for about 5 seconds and THEN she will be fine to go in the morning. After the first start, she just needs one pump. This can't be normal?

Most of my experiances are with an Autolite 1100 (1v) and2 Holley Street Avengers, one on my friends 68 w/ 347 stroker and the other on a 318ci Dodge RamCharger

Thanks alot for the info guys. I have a Holley street avenger 770 carb w/ holley intake on a 390 big block. Ive only had her for a few days and i didnt know if this was normal as ive never driven a carbuerated car. Thanks!
My friends swears to me that you should never have less than 5 carbs
Your Street Avenger will work better once you have it set right. Mine fires right up, and only requires me to rev it a little bit to get some heat into the chamber when it's really cold out(I also run straight 30, so it's fighting cold oil as well), but the choke works great even with the fast idle at only like 1,200-1,300rpm.
Two different things. Fast idle is controlled in the same way as regular idle, but with a different screw. The fast idle screw works off the choke linkage. There is a "step-up" cam that the screw rides on, it's on a low part of the cam when the car is warm, and on a higher step when the car is cold.
