Default Door locks

Help!

Novice Mustang guy who just (ticked off my wife) and bought a '65 convertible. I want to replace the ignition and door locks - the keys are originals and very fragile. I'm up to a challenge and love the car.

Finding the parts on EBay is easy, but does anyone have a resource with detailed diagrams about how to replace the door locks?

Thanks,
Chris

If it's like my 66, put the key in the ign. and turn to the ACC position. Then use a paper clip and insert it into the little hole. Turn it left and the cylinder should pull right out. Also, disconnect your battery ahead of time..Hope it's the same..

For the door locks, there is a little clip (kinda horseshoe shaped with squared off corners) that you pull out and the lock will be free from the door. You still have to disconnect the rod from it that controls the lock. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Good luck, and WELCOME TO THE FORUM.

Ignition: turn key to ACC position, insert paper clip into small hole, depressing button and turn counterclockwise and addition 30* or so as you pull out on the key. It will come right out. Install is reverse of removal. Put key in new lock, press button and turn counterclockwise until the key is in the same position relative of the cylinder as the one you removed. Put it in the hole and slowly turn it clockwise.

Doors: Roll window all the way up, remove door and window handles, armrest and door panel (pry out very carefully right next to small clips or you'll damage the panel) and then peel back the water shield. Unclip lock rods from lock, slide retaining clip away from cylinder and remove lock. Install is reverse of removal.

Trunk: Remove latch mechanism held in by two bolts. Remove retaining nut with deep socket and slide assembly out. Cylinder is retained by small button which must be pressed or drilled out. Install is reverse of removal.

Good luck!
Jeff
