It depends on how good you get at it....

Chances are with practice you wont grind it very often... If you get really good, you wont need synchros at all...
True, but I've heard that this places a LOT ofstress on the syncros, at least the ones that still work.
If done right, it can actually take some stress off of the synchros, if done wrong it can causeproblems. With the Fast 65s issue with 3rd gear, the learnig curve should be short.

If double clutching, the risk of damage is very slight, IMO less than "grinding it in". If trying to "float" the gear in (not using the clutch) there is a bigger risk.

I have the advantage of learning to drive a standard on a truck without synchros.. and I have been doing so from time to time for the last 26 years since... This experience + the fact that I am somewhat mechanically inclined, has allowed me to"feel"this synchronization when making a shift...

In any case, if the synchros are good, the clutch should be used....

Ya know, ignore what I said. Teach me to try to think before 7am...

The stress comes when trying to shift without the clutch. With the clutch in, syncro stress is minimal.

I tried double-clutching today and it helped. I actually think I'm getting pretty good at it, but I defientely could improve. Thanks for all your help guys.
