This is all very interesting since I didnt really realize the difference between a mustang dyno and a dynojet. In fact, I am not sure I fully understand the difference............ As far as I can tell, mine was really similar to this but elevated, not in ground:

This is not the shop I was at but it is almost the same, except mine was not AWD... (Just found this site on google)

One type is an accelerometer, it simply measures how fast your car can accelerate the drum that has a known mass, it then calculates the horsepower from the interia. They aren't as accurate and tend to read higher. The other type is a brake dyno, it uses a mechanism, generally a hydraulic one, to provide a resistant force through the drum and based on how much braking it has to do to allow your car to accelerate the drum, it calculates power. This type is much more accurate, but tends to read lower. 297rwhp for a n/a 302 isn't exactly weak, that's more than what most n/a 302 drivers have. What are ALL your mods? There is stuff that will make other differences, exhaust size, what type of pullies you have, ignition etc. Again, 297 is pretty decent, especially for something with a flat tappet cam(which I'm assuming is what you have, right?). As far as beating your buddy's 12.90 truck, the New Z06's are supposed to run 12.0, but people have run 13's in them. Sometimes you beat a faster car just by being a better driver. Or, if your car is really light, geared well and hooks well it may be a mid-high 12sec car. That's why you should take it to a drag strip and run it, trap speed and vehicle weight are a good indicator for rwhp. Don't get hung up on a certain power number, the guys that do that end up making bad choices and have a slow engine. High hp numbers are really nothing more than bragging rights ON PAPER, how the car runs is the real story on performance.

WOW, its been a few days cause of work for me to get on and thanks for all the replies. Okay in my 65 I have a 302 bored to a 310 with all hyperutetic internals, 10:5:1 compression, MSD ignition (with blaster 2/3 can't remember and 6A box), full exhaust (2 1/4), matching heads, cam, and intake (eldelbrock performer RPM) Holley 650 double pumper, TCM 2800 stall, and 373's in the back with an 8.8. It was the MUSTANG DYNO that I was tested on and it costed $100 and I got 4 runs total. As far as pullies, I just have whatever it came stock with. AGAIN, does this sound right?? Thanks a bunch!

Looks about right to me. Look at this package that produces 373 hp at the flywheel.
http://www.fordcobraengines.com/302_367Carbureted.htm
It has Edelbrock heads, cam intake, etc. The 373 hp at the flywheel would be reduced by at least 25% going through the auto tranny and rear end, which would net about298 hp at the rear wheels. Scarry close to the measurement you got.

I do not understand what you mean by 710 roller torque at 70 mph. That is pretty much an impossible number for a n/a small block.

Don't worry about the numbers so much. I used to run low 12's all day long. Almost 11's, when I was N/A and dynoed 275 to the ground. But it pulled the wheels. Then with the turbo and an inertia dyno(don't ask. I didn't want to, but I didn't pay for it.), it put down a whopping 369. Same boost level on a dyno jet, it put down 477rwhp. Ran the same times either way. It's just a tuning tool.

Huh?? So I wonder if I'm putting out around 373 hp?? Cuz yeah, thats hella close to what I have. I forgot to mention I have roller rockers too...but anyway....this guy didnt do anything to my car, no tune, adjustment, NOTHING!!! I was expecting to have more power when I left due to precision adjustment and none were done!! [:@][:@] Does anyone know of a good shop in the 209 area that I can have my car tuned in at?? I really wanna get this thing dialed in before I go to the track so I can run my best. Plus the closest one is like 1 1/2 hrs from me

Did you ask for a tune? They arn't going to do squat unless you ask for it and for it!

Dyno "tune" sessions are usually closer to $500, at least that is what the locals charge.

Just FYI.... I paid $400 for my dyno tune yesterday. Plus about $50 for a new MSD coil & rotor + Champion plugs. I was getting billed at $200/hr but lucky for me the guys were hella cool and worked with me for about 4 hours and cut me a deal. So yeah, dyno runs and dyno tuning is a big difference in co$t.

From what I understand, there are plenty of places that will let you "dyno" your car but do not offer the full tuning options. That is what I was looking for....even though I didnt want to spend the cash, the results were worth it.

65PonyLove.... just wondering what shop you went to? I saw on your profile that your zip looks like a NorCal zip....... I know you are probably not looking to spend a bunch more cash on dyno now but I can give you any of the contact info for the guys I used for my dyno tune yesterday if you are interested. Just let me know.
Sorry you are not really happy with your results. I was a little lucky with my experience, even though it was not cheap. I think it is a little bit of a gamble without a solid recommendation, which I am guessing neither of us had. I had a good lead since I used the same guys who built my engine and knew they were established engine builders in San Francisco... and I figured they had to know their $hit. But I just got lucky that these guys were genuinely interested in improving my Mustangs performance and along the way, it became clear to me that they were not as concerned with profit as they were with getting the best performance out of my engine and getting it tuned just right. I showed up at 10am and we had one half hour delay while waiting for the MSD rotor and coil to be delivered (they had just run out) and I left at 3pm. Sometime along the way, maybe at like 11am, I had said I was a little concerned about how long it was going to take and the owner said that he would just bill me for two hours, no matter how long it took. I offered to pay more but he said he liked working with me, liked working with the dyno and wanted to try to get 60 extra horses out of my engine. I wasnt going to argue. At the end of the day, they wanted to make sure I was happy with the results and we took the car on a drive around the block and tore it up a bit, trying to dodge traffic ha, they probably thought we were maniacs! The guys would have been willing to do one more run but I was happy where we were at and I needed to get home before the rush got reeeally bad since I had to hit 101 north and get across the Bay Bridge...
Anyways, let me know if you want any more info from me and I will help in any way I can. Cheers.
