Default Radio Wiring

So I found an am/fm stock radio for my 68. The wiring from the PO was a mess- he had a crappy tape player that was had about 10 splices.

Coming from the radio, I have a black wire and blue wire that share a common plug- I'm assuming this is the power to the radio and the light.
Whats the best power source to tap into for this?

There is another pigtail of wires which I'm assuming are for the speakers-.
Cream with green stripe
Pink with blue stripe
Orange with green stripe
Black with white stripe
Pink with green stripe

Anyone have any experience with this- I don't want to go cutting up wires if I don't have to- I'd like everything to be as clean as possible.

Thanks

Pretty sure the blue and black are power wires. On my '66 there is a red multi-plug behind the instruments for power to the radio, not sure about the light.

For the speaker wires, test it outside the car. I guessing the black with white stripe is the common, so take a speaker and connect it up then turn the balance and fader controls to find out which speaker a wire is for.

In case you haven't figured it out, I know nothing about radios/wiring etc... lol- so here's another question.

When I run the power wire of the radio directly to the + post of my battery nothing happens.
Do I need to ground the radio to get power?

Again sorry for the dumb question- I thought it would be a piece of cake to get this thing hooked up

Yes you will need to ground it.

red/orange = power
blue= remote/antennae
purple, green,white, anything "striped" are speaker wires.
black- ground

blue= remote/antennae
remote/antennae on a stock '68 radio? I don't think that's right.

So I grounded it and hooked the power up to one of the yellow wires from the ignition and I get nothing- what am I doing wrong? My initial thought is that the radio is dead.

Is the key on? Do you have a test light (only a couple of bucks at auto parts store)? Make sure your source is not a switched source.

if you don't have a speaker hooked up, your light could be out and it could be on and you just don't know it. does the radio have an on/off switch?
