Traction bars....
Dont trip out dude Superdavid's got a lot of ideas and to say youd wax his small block i think is a bit of over confidence. If i remember correctly david's motor hasa lot of punch to it also
.I agree with it being prob a lil driver mod NOT in a bad way just a little more learning of how to launch properly

Did you three not read the "punch it" in parenthesis ?I have no problem getting a good launch,Im merely trying to use FULL torque capacity off the line rather that holding back and letting it rev to 1900 RPM and letting loose; i.e. my question in regards to traction bars. I was mislead into believing traction bars "suck the air" in the rear end to sort of "vaccuum" the *** end down. With THAT mindframe, i thought i cound PUNCH ITand get a good response rather than babying it. After realizing traction bars dont serve that purpose, i will getwider tires. Maybe next time i willput my question in big bold letters for you.
A softer compound tire will also get you to hook up much better. It sounds like your car is running much better than earlier this week. What did you do?

I stayed away from Speedway gas stations. lol. Its amazingwhat bad gas can lead you to believe.
Stopped the surging, dieseling and hesitations with the throttle. Go SHELL !!!

Traction bars WILL increase your traction, that's why they're called TRACTION bars. A good set of traction bars, like CE's Slide-A-Links will help to stick the rear tires to the ground harder when you launch. Preventing wheel hop is another function of traction bars, but not the only one. As far as using all your power off the line, what are you wanting to do? Take off at 5,000rpm? You better get slicks. Good street tires with good traction bars and you'll hook up reasonably well, but still there is a point where it just gets silly. If you have enough power it doesn't matter WHAT traction devices you have, unless you're launching on at least ET's, or slicks, you're never going to launch under full power, street tires can't make that kind of traction
Thank you 67mustang302, i can always count on you for good advice.
All i wanted to knowwas if traction bars will increase traction. Sounds like a no brainer, but when youread these previous responses, it will make you wonder lol.

Adriver mod?..... your ridulous, idwax your small block. A buddy of mine just suggested some traction bars to hold the *** end down and i was curious to see what the experts thought about it, not your immature ***.

Traction bars will only cure wheel hop... wheel spinning needs stickier/wider tires and from the sounds of it maybe a driver mod too...

Okie dokie. I have a couple of issues with this post.
1. It has a frickin smiley. If I was trying to be an ***, it wouldn't have.
2. If spinning your tires for 30 plus seconds is your idea of lauching, then a driver mod wouldn't be all that 'rediculous' of an idea.
3. Be really, really careful who's small block you say you will 'wax'. There are some bad a$$ rides on hererunning smallblocks. You have no idea what I have in my car, other than whats in my sig. If getting on the internet and claiming you can 'wax' me makes you feel better about yourself, go for it. If you wanna come out to Texas and make a few passes at the strip, that would be great! And hey, if you 'wax' me, I'lleven put "69stang390 waxed me" in my sig justto make you feel special....
4. You posted this thread as a question and I answered it. If you don't want people's opinions (cuz thats all my point of view is... just an opinion so don't freak out) then don't ask for them.
5. I'm not the one that flipped over someone saying I needed a 'driver mod'... but that makes me the immature ***?????
Not only all that, but you were also a jerk to some of the other guys in this thread that are really nice guys just cuz they defended me. Its also kinda funny how in your last thread you saidyou're going to end up doing what I said to begin with... and thats get different tires... maybe my opinion isn't so bad....
Peace bro. No harm was meant.
Traction bars can keep the weight transfer from happening because when they make contact the spring can no longer load. I would say they are for wheel hop only and do not improve, but rather decrease the planting force of the rear tires.
The only way they can help is if the spring is twisting and thus lifting the tire then they are an aid to traction. Lakewood also makes a set of heavy duty spring clamps that you lock the spring together with. They are only 30-40 bucks. These work very well to preventspring twisting. I run them on the front side of the rear axle only.

Traction bars help traction, a little bit. They aren't going to be much use for a setup that can spin the tires 30 seconds without issue. The help from traction bars comes from using the torque of the axle twist to push the tires into the ground. However, being the finicky thing tires are, too much load will tend to decrease the traction, which is counter-intuitive, but supported by many suspension tuning books.
I'll gladly line my small-block up against a 390 Mustang...Never had an issue, there.
