Default AODE / 4R70W

Ok folks (especially you, Corky ), let's talk about the AODE for a bit. It has come up in a few threads lately and my curiosity is piqued. Who's got links to AODE information? Even if they have been posted before, let's see them!

I've got the AOD in my 69 pretty much squared away but I would like to have a contingency plan for when it goes out. Right now I'm wondering if I can use a computer out of a junkyard car just to control the transmission. What sensor inputs will the computer need to control the transmission? I'm assuming it will need at least a TPS signal and some source of engine RPM information... What else?

What other options to the Baumannator TCS are there?

You should try postin in the 5.0 forum as well, lotta guys there have experience with AODE's. Automatics are for girls anyway, real men drive with one hand on their stick [8D]

Hey, I gotta have a free hand to hold my beverage and to return fire if necessary. Besides, you can't steer with your left knee if you need to push in the clutch all the time.

I'll check out some of the 5.0 forums out there also. I really haven't done my homework yet on this one, I'm still working on the wiring for my EFI project.

Sometimes in traffic I do think an automatic would be nice, and for the strip, but I enjoy driving stick enough that it far more than outweighs the auto advantages. And yeah, the 5.0 tech section I'm sure has a crapload of folks who know about AODE and computer stuff

i have a aode from lentech i love and hate it only thing i hate is the manual valve body so i have to shift it.but i daily drive my 68 and i have a 30 mile round trip to work and back down i71 so the overdrive is well worth it to me.the computer you can use a junkyard if you like as long as it works theres only a couple wires to it not that hard to install.just need the tranny the ecu for it a crossmember buy one or make it the kick down and tv cable and new driveshaft.

The AODE does NOT have a kick down cable. It will not work with a junkyard computer. The computer needs input from the engine to know when to shift.

If you have an AOD in there now and it works well LEAVE IT ALONE. The AODE will be a much larger investment for minimal if any gain. What is nice about the "E" transmissions is the ability to tune them and the lack of the cable that needs proper adjustment.

If you dont know WTF you are talking about, PLEASE dont act like you do.. mkay?

I would have thought that the very act of asking questions would indicate that I'm someone who "dont [sic] know WTF you are talking about". Obviously not everyone picks up on that.

Why won't it work with a junkyard computer if I give the computer the inputs it needs? Exactly what inputs DOES it need? Do you know WTF you are talking about?

If you had read the original post, you would know that I don't plan on replacing my AOD as long as it is working. When it goes out, I want to know what it will take to upgrade.

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom and enlightenment. Keep anything else to yourself. mkay?

Thumpin is a good guy...off day maybe? and he's talking to andrew, not you, jcomp

anyway, if you plan on going EFI one day, and want the AODE, best bet is to find a 5.0 from 94-95 and pull the tranny, computer, valve covers, manifolds and wiring. should all work well together. otherwise, the AOD alone is fine. (EDIT* I should say, replacing the AOD, with a newer AOD, would beeasier. Get a built one from a tranny company and you'll never need to wory about it.)I'm a fan of the T5 and T56 but thats just me,lol. Good luck
