Master cylinders
Anyone know the differences between the 1980 Granada master cylinder and the 1974 Maverick master cylinder? Both are for manual brakes with the Granada cylinder being for disc/drum. We are getting ready to do the Granada disc swap on our '65 coupe and about the only big item left to pick up is the master cylinder. One looks as good as the other and both come with a push rod. I know....I should keep the push rod out of the Mustang to do this swap, but I dont have one....we have power drums and theres no push rod. I can take thepush rodthat comes with eithercylinder, cut about 3/4 inch out of the middle, re-thread both ends and insert an adjuster between the two end pieces to make the rod workable with the master cylinder in our car. Just need to know which is the better cylinder to get.
When I did the Granada swap on the fastback, I got a master cylinder for an F150 truck. Larger fluid capacity. To operate the discs you will need more volume than what a drum/drum master cylinder is capable of. Go big.
I used an '80 Granada when I swapped mine (M1614). I have not been able to get mine back on the road because of other projects but I do have it bled. I reused my pushrod though and the pedel height seems ok to me. That one has the ports on the drivers side too.
