Default no 3rd gear

I am having a problem with my 65, coupe, straight 6, 3 speed. I think the syncro went out between 2nd and 3rd. I can't get the tranny into 3rd gear. Does this sound like a syncro problem? Am I better rebuild or get a new tranny?

I dont know much about transmissions, but it IMO, it would be a waste of money to rebuild a c6. A little more money and you could get a 4 sp or an AOD tranny.

Hope this helps!

Does it grind when you push the clutch in or only when you move the shifter is it full of gear oil.

Could be a bent fork. Will the tranny engage 3rd when you're sitting still? If not, you have internal damage. You could rebuild the 3-speed, but a 4-speed is an easy enough swap and will help the 6 get up to speed a little better.

Obvious. It's a 3-speed manual tranny, not a C6. The C6 would have only come behind a big block in a Mustang, definitely not a 6-banger.

Need more info. Is it grinding when you try to shift? Does it go into gear with the car off? Possible it's just a linkage adjustment issue

it might be the vaccum. theres a hose goin from the carb to the bottom of the tranny. if ones of the ends is open, it wont shift. i had this problem and i found out the hose fell off of the tranny. my car wouldnt shift outta 2nd. it was in 2nd all the time.

Lot of good things to think about, thank's y'all. For those asking what the deal was, 1st gear, 2nd gear, no 3rd. It won't go in at all. Stopped, running, off, clutch in, our or half way. 3rd will not engage at all. I am hoping it's an easy fix, but honestly I am sorta hoping it's screwed so I can upgrade to a 4 speed toploader. What do y'all think about the 3 vs the 4 speed?

oh i thought it was a 3 spd auto. well then its probably linkage. if it were a c4 then it mightve been the vaccum line but nope it not.

I have a 3 speed manual also and I feel the more gears the better. What I'm considering for my upgrade instead of a 4 speed is an upgrade to a t5 5 speed trans. Much better for the highway.
