Probably not. You need to get a tune kit for the carb. It will include most of the rods, jets, and springs you'll need to get that ironed out.

I think the Edelbrock AFB has design problems. I bought a new Edelbrock AFB to replace an old Carter AFB on a 67 Stang 289. Never could get it to start/run right.

First off, I could not get the idle speed down slow enough. Finally I did, but not reliably. Then there were choke problems and starting problems. This was all quite a few years ago, and I no longer recall the details. However, I recall discovering that there was a jambing problem with the shafts and stamped parts that controlled the choke, fast idle cam, etc.

The problem was, the stamped parts were too wimpy to hold their shape. The spring in the mechanism was too stiff, and in a short time, one of the stamped parts would bend and then get jambed up on the shaft. I could straighten it out, but it would soon bend again. I eventually gave up and replaced the AFB with an Autolite 4100.

An Autolite 4100 is certainly a much simpler and easier to tune design, but there is no design problem with the current Edelbrock choke linkage. I don't know what stamped parts you're talking about; there are rods and a couple cams, everything cast and bent into shape. They're plenty sturdy for the extremely small load placed on them. I have zero problems with my Edelbrock.
