Default Steering Wheel Removal

I have a 65 mustang. I need to know how you remove the steering wheel from the column. Any special tools I need? Thanks in advance!

disconnect the battery, take the horn ring off by pushing it in and turning, next the the nut off the steering shaft, then use a steering wheel puller, insert one bolt then the threaded puller and thent he other matching bolt, tighten the long threaded puller til it pops off. When you put it back on make sure te orientation is correct then push on and and just tighten the nut onto the steering shaft. You want to disconnect the battery cuz otherwise things will spark if u ground the horn contact. The steering wheel puller is a universal and is only like 8 bucks.

Thanks! In order to get the "orientation correct" does that just mean lining up the steering wheel staright with the wheels? What's the best way to accomplish this? Should I eyeball the steering wheel as straight as possible with the tires straight?

I know this may be a little late...

But I was able to massage my wheel off by using my knees without much difficulty. (Didn't have a wheel puller and nothing was open on Sunday night.) Also be sure to torque the wheel nut back on to the correct specs. Naturally this spec escapes me now... I had my work loose on me as thecorrect torquewas tighter than I guessed.

Good luck.
