header instalation ?

if my block is painted should i remove the paint from the heads where the headers mount or can i mount the headers painted

I'd remove the paint with a wire brush and some carb cleaner, but that's me.

I personally would hit it with a wire brush to clean it off. I use hitemp silicone on my header gaskets tho.

The cleaner the interface, the less likely you will have a leak. James's suggestion is a good one, since most header flanges are not flat nor true.
