So after a long time away from here I am back. Man time really does fly.
So I have heard then when I put in the 289 that I need to change the front suspension and spindles to handle the larger engine as well as the rear axles. Is this true? It just sounds odd to me that Ford would make these years with completely different suspension and spindles. I do know I will have the change the rear axle to get the 5 lug, do you guys know if the splines are the same count? Thanks again everyone.

the 6 was the basic model mustang, and everything about it was basic, the spindles were just strong enough for a 6, so don't try to make them hold an 8
and the front springs are different because obviously a v8 weighs more than a i6...
Get v8 spindles, and you will be good to go.
also, you may want to consider front disc brakes, kits are available for as little as 5 or 600, and some include the spindles you need.

289s and 02s are hard to find? Where are you? I can literally buy a complete 302 or 289 for under $100 every day for 3 weeks straight before I find them hard to come by.
lol I always find it entertaining, you won't find a guy with anything from a 302 all the way up to a 428 that will tell you to keep the 6. It's always the guys WITH the 6s that feel like they have to defend them. I have a 408 and wouldn't tell you to keep the 6... it'll NEVER be as much fun as a v8, I promise that. Nothin at ALL against the 6s they are classic and original, but you'll never be happy with the power, no matter what you tell yourself.
and, as for testifying for v8's you sure have been playing devils advocate lately, here and for grant steering wheels
