Default Door questions

How many of you have relaced your door skins? I am thinking about it but there is really only surface rust on the bottom. it hasn't eaten through yet... but, the inside of the door has rust as well.
Has anyone tried to just rust treat the inside of their door without taking of the skin? i have plenty of por15 and would like to save the money...
also, has anyone used a complete door replacement? mustangs unlimited has them.

If you've got plenty of POR 15, then I don't see why you couldn't just treat the inside of the door yourself. I've never tried it myself, and I imagine it would be a royal PITA, but I don't see why it couldn't be done so long as you removed all the guts of the door. I'd rather do that than shell out the money and fart around with a whole new door shell. I had enough trouble lining up the original doors after replacing hinges. I couldn'timagine trying to line up an aftermarket door.

Ihave never re-skinned a door, butI did buy a complete shell from NPD. It fit really nice and the woodgrain was good. If I remember right it was about $350.00 or so. Also check out ebay, craigslist, swap meet, ect. and you might be able to pick up a good used one.

Last winter I treated the insides of my door shells. Used a dremmel for the small areas. Ate up quite a few bits and grinding wheels in the process. Ran a shop vac during process to keep the dust/rust from migrating. Used rust converter afterwards. Its definitely cheap and buys you time before the inevitable. I've been doing this for the last 18 yrs. on various parts of my69 vert daily driver with pretty good results.

If you do this, dont grind all the way to bare metal. Needs some rust to react with. The label has directions and is avail at walmart for $4a can.

Well, this gives some time to think on it. I am worried that treating the rust i won't be able to get every nook and cranny inside the door....

The inside of the doors will be a real pain to coat entirely, but this would give you time before you have to replace the skin or a complete shell.

We installeda complete shell from NPD on a budy's 66 coupe. Thefit was great and it is already EDP coated, which will help prevent future rust.
