I tried using a 10" C-clamp in a similar fashion to what you did and it started denting the frame railing before the bolt moved. I'd be afraid on some peoples' cars, it would push that through the panel instead of pushing the bolt out...

Art, That looks like a good solution for lightly rusted front spring bolts, but I know it wouldn't have worked for mine. To put it in perspective, after I cut the bolts on mine I tried to press the bolts out because I had visions of using the old springs to put the rear end in so I could just move the car around until I got my new springs. I used my 20 ton hydraulic press and a 1/2" x 4" steel bar with a hole in it to press the cut offbolt through. All I accomplished was to bend the 1/2" plate. I then used the press to straighten the plate and backed it up with the press plates and tried again. I didn't have the opposite end of the spring supproted the best, and what wound up happening was shooting the 7/16" bolt I was using to press with across the shop because of the flex in my press. I then decided it wasn't worth it and will just order new springs since that is the ultimate plan anyway.

Yes, you have to be careful if you try the pushing against the rocker panel method. I kept a sharp eye on the panel to make sure it didn't start moving. Luckily for me it didn't budge, but it could be very bad on a rusted panel.

Yeah this is such a pain!!! I think I am going to try the "gizmo". the bolt is spinning so i think I can avoid panel damage. i'll let you know how it goes... or doesn't go

I tried and tried too, resorting to much carnage and damage. I destroyed a screwdriver trying to bang it through, but to no avail. I put a 6" or 7" metal cutting blade on a 4.5" grinder (after removing the guard-that should have been warning number 1). Not recommended. I was able to get both bolts cut, but nearly putting a gash in my upper left bicep area from the flying debris of the bladebreaking into many peices. I had a long-sleeved shirt on too. Luckily I had face and eye protection but it happen in about .2 sec. Be careful whatever you do. I still have the scar, nice battlewounds to remind me that this is a love-hate relationship with my stang.

Here is the link that shows what I was talking about.
A picture is worth a thousand words.

By the way, the passengers side leaf bolt, I had to use this pushing method to get it out.
When I did thedrivers sideleaf spring, that bolt came right out by hand. Almost made me mad because I wanted to use the gizmo again.
I was lucky enough not to have this problem, but this was a good idea. Looks easier than sawzall.
