Default Roof project

Hey guys, i've mentioned this in a thread several weeks ago as i began this project, but now this project is underways and actually about 80% done at the moment. All i have left to do is install my windshields.

I'm only 18 and i am just now learning how to do body work at a community college and right now im doing what my instructor has told me as a very rare project. He said that there are people who've done body work their whole lives that haven't done what im doing right now.

Anywho, To make things sweet and short, i had to cut off my roof because it was really badly rusted and i've replaced it with a donor car roof. I've dedicated a website to the entire project (which is not entirely updated) which should be completly finished by next weekend. Check the site out for more information on how and what i'm doing. i think its pretty interesting and i think you guys will find it interesting to check out and read about for yourselves. anywho, give me any feedback or comments in this thread. Enjoy!

zero replies so far 0.o you gotta be kidding me...does no one car? I have more people interested in this project on a video games forum than i do on an actual Mustang forum.

Well first of all it might help to give us a link to this "website." SO that we can read about it and leave you comments. AS for cutting **** off a car and replace it with parts from donor cars, that done everyday with classic cars. My entire right rear 1/4 came from a donor car. But best of luck to you, and make sure those weld are really good, cause if not you'll be up **** creek without a paddle if you roll the car.

As for the "rarity"of the project, thats what ive heard from other body shop guys because im inexperienced myself so i actually dont know how rare this is, but ive had several people tell me that people rarely change roofs. Butof course if you work in a shop that works particularly on classics, then chances are you'll be changing roofs pretty frequenelty.

Wow! That's a project I wouldn't even consider. [:'(] I guess that's what most of us would find under the vinyl top. Looks like it's coming along, so keep us posted.

Enjoy this while you have lots of time and energy, but than again you are young. Thirty years from now you won’t even think about it. Best of luck. [sm=smiley20.gif]

I think I may have to do something like this...My vinyle top has a bunch of "bumps" under its surface and I'm afraid to see what it actually looks like underneath. What are some of the disadvantages of using bondo, fiberglass, or even patching the existing roof? If I do have to replace the top, how much should I anticipate putting into a replacement?
