Default RE: Top Speed?

These atorys of high speed have me nervous about mine now. lol
Years ago with the 289 mild built and a 373 gear I was being stupid and racing my nephew down the highway about 140mph it was @ 4800 rpm in 4th gear and took almost 2 lanes to hold it.
The front was very light. Now with the way its built the speed analyzer numbers came up @ 2200 rpm in 5th would would be 95mph.
Im planing on the front spoiler and rear mo-joe style trunk wing.

It has been put together to run @ high speed Guess ill ease into it and see what it feels like.
Even tho they are ugly I thought about the ricer alu. wing on the back for those road race runs.
Havent tested any of this yet still finishing it up. Top end specs out about 210 according to data but no way I would ever see that. and its all theory @ this point anyway.

These cars suck at high speeds, at 120 I was moving all over the road. Scary ****, but I'd do it again.

How scary the ride and unsafe it is depends on how each individual car is set up. Some old Mustangs and Camaros that are set up to race can easily do 160-200mph and be very steady. Stock suspension in a street car certainly will be a hairy ride once you start getting into triple digits. Beat suspension is just plain dangerous, in any car.
show me one that can EASILY doo 200mph and still be steady.
give me the money and ill build you one! its a diffcult task, but with 50k i could do it for you. big TT 2.73's lowering, extremely stiff suspension, you would have to fab up some **** for the front end for down force, but i could do it for you.

i dont think you all are relizing what aerodynmics are. 140, ok i believe you. to go abother 40 mph, you need to be able to push the wind away, not have gobs of horsepower.

I used to hit my 66 coupe up to 120 all the time, with stock 289. then i started getting older, and started doing it less, cause i knew what could happen. So then i bought my 2000 GT and i can do 120-130 in 4th gear. but i dont do that anymore either. People just have to realize it takes one little thing to take your stang running 140 and putting it in the trees, wall, other car, on it's top.

i just asked my dad about getting a stang up to 200+ speeds, and he said just takes money..... aero can be fixed, you could do it in a classic.
Sixt5 your statement is correct to a point, if i have 2k rwhp i could push my dads armada 200mph. a stock body stang could do it easily with the right amount of money. there are so many variables to consider but it could be done....BTW my dad has a PhD in aerospace engineering so i have a pretty good idea what aero is.

I understand all to well what aerodynamics are. ive seen the top side of 178 on my zx-10 and when i popped my head it though it was going to ****** me off the bike. I made a run from Atl GA> to San Marcos TX in 12 hours on that thing.

Go look @ Dan Gottlieb's '69 Camaro it averages 225 mph in the road america races he has one several times.

I hit about 148 in my old '96 Impala SS (it's governed at 154) and while it was pretty steady, the thought of what could happen made me back off. At these kind of speeds death is only a millisecond away, especially on public highways.

Don't take a classic 'Stang above 100 unless you are on a track meant for it, we don't need to lose any members to stupid **** like that.
