Top Speed?
Wow, you had 37" tall tires on the rear of your Stang!? I'd love to see that.
BTW, 4800 rpm with 3.73's and the stock height tire will get you 98mph. A 29.5" tire (245/75-15) will get you about 113mph.

These atorys of high speed have me nervous about mine now. lol
Years ago with the 289 mild built and a 373 gear I was being stupid and racing my nephew down the highway about 140mph it was @ 4800 rpm in 4th gear and took almost 2 lanes to hold it.
The front was very light. Now with the way its built the speed analyzer numbers came up @ 2200 rpm in 5th would would be 95mph.
Im planing on the front spoiler and rear mo-joe style trunk wing.
It has been put together to run @ high speed Guess ill ease into it and see what it feels like.
Even tho they are ugly I thought about the ricer alu. wing on the back for those road race runs.
Havent tested any of this yet still finishing it up. Top end specs out about 210 according to data but no way I would ever see that. and its all theory @ this point anyway.

Another Camero with a Ford rearend. Looking at the car, it will take most all that HP to push wind. Aeordynamics could ease the struggle. Think of parking your car in a 200 MPH hurrican and hoping it will stay in place. Stick your arm out the window at that speed, and it will snap. Not to mention the tires, I see a lot of high speed runsposted here, but has anyone checked the speed rating of their tires? At 200 MPH all it takes is a little bump or even a shift in the wind, and your car will turn into an airplane. Its not the takeoff, its the landing. I can't say too much about pushing these old cars, as I have done it myself, and I feel lucky to still be here.I'm just glad I was on the track, and not a public road.My car was VERY light at these speeds. If you decide totry this, do a video for us.
With enough horsepower, even an inverted cone could go 200mph. Look at the space shuttle, on descent it has the aerodynamics of a massively large brick, but enough energy behind it to travel several thousand mph, enough that the friction with the atmosphere causes the surface of the shuttle to reach several thousand degrees F. Go out to a drag strip, there are PLENTY of very unaerodynamic American cars that are doing 150-200mph and are steady passing through the trap. It's all in how you set up the car. My 67 with stock springs is rock steady at 130mph, no wander, no lightness in the front end. When I trap out at the track, by the time I throttle out and start breaking I'm doing almost 110, and never have any stability problems, break hard and it goes straight. Most of the old Mustangs suck at high speeds because things like shock stiffness, ride height and alignment aren't set correctly for those high speeds.
oh please ive had my mildly modded 65 289 stang up to 120 a handful of times and its not THAT bad. now dont get me wrong its scary goin fast in the classics, i blew a radiator hose at 115 in my 65 and let me tell ya, that was an experience. but im gunna throw some big gears in the rear and my new top speed will be all of,....drum roll please...100 MPH!! but it sure will get there fast
i have a 'freind'
who raced a late late 90's camoro in his 65 mustang he costed rightpassed the camaro after the race they guy in the camaro said he looked down at his speedo as he got passed by my buddy and he was at 150. he payed for it thoe his tranny broke like 2 days later.

LOL took me a min to figure what the hell you were talking about 37" tall tire.
#73 gears are gone I have 325 gears 17" wheels now and used the calculator on Keislers site should be close its in the trans gearing I went with the TKO 500
325 gears 17" wheels and 245 rear tires. Besides go fly your explorer. lol

I'm amazed why anyone would want to do 145 MPH in a classic mustang? Much less the 175 or 190 like you are wanting. It sounds like you just asking to be killed.

I'm good to about 130 in the fastback then I start thinking about the wife, the kids, the mortgage, and level it off there.
The rack and pinion front end made an enormous difference in the amount of confidence I have in my car at higher speeds. No slop, no 2 lane driving. Just pleasantly predictable handling.

i got my car up to 95 once...not too bad but definitely would not want to go much faster. it stayed in the lane alright but it took a lot of concentration to keep it there. i guess im just not as brave as you guys...
