Default built trannys

are the performance tranny's you'd get from mustangs unlimited and such made to give a lighter load on the engine as well as increases in shifting and all?

aka do performance tranny's increase rwhp?

Hey Dave, Dont know this is the answer your looking for but Ill give you my take.
As my stang was it had a worn out 4 speed bad vibrations and all the fun of 40 years of abuse.
I know the power wasnt getting to the rear wheels.
Not a fact but a guess and opinion by others I know too is almost 35% power was getting lost.
After doing a rebuild and a new hays clutch kit it felt like I threw a shot of NOS on it.

Technically they shouldnt give you more hp, but as said if you can free up some rwhp by decreasing internal friction thats a good thing

Just Senile ramblings of a old gear head Dave.
I did the Keisler TKO complete package flywheel to the rear end.
What Ive ran into is jabs about running a 325 gear in my rear ratio.
The trans I had built they gave me some options the build I bought has a really low ratio 1st gear and high ratio final drive.
In comparison to my 4 speed this is the difference.
My car with 325 gears will now take off out of the hole like it has a 430 gear.
5th gear it will be @ idle about 70 mph.
Just for fun go to there web site and run the calculator to see what the comparison for your set up would be.

With a manual, you're not losing much hp through the tranny at all unless it's seriously messed up. Reduced friction (new bearings, proper lube, etc) will help decrease what little parasitic loss is there, but you're not going to get 50hp out of a 'performance' m/t as opposed to a stock rebuild. And generallythe only 'performance' mods to manual transmissions are beefier internal parts, which will actually increase inertia and therefore parasitic power loss. But again, not enough to really make a significant difference.

Automatic trannies are a different ballgame altogether. My knowledge of automatics isn't that great, but I wouldn't be suprised if a performance C4 build used less power than a stock unit.

Yea my 4 speed was shot not shifting right plus a bad trans mount I lost a lot of torque.
The difference was drastic. Clutch slippage is the worst issue im worried about now.

I would think that more than freeing up horsepower, it would just give you better gear ratios... unless you are switching from a slushbox auto to a manual.
