I've got 3.4s with traction lock and it's a good compromise. Put 4.11s on a c4 and you'll have mini vans passing you on the highway. I bought a pumpking with trac loc off ebay and swapped out myself. Very easy to do. You do have to take axles off but not a big deal.

BTW it's not POS - it limited slip.

i know posi isnt the correct term but its the most widely accepted so[8D]

i have 3.40's in my II and its pretty good for driving aroun town, i want to go to 3.80 but i won't be doing any highway driving either.

4.11's are just too damn low w/o overdrive if you ask me.

My dad had to replace his chunk in his 4runner. That was a pain in the azz. Had one of the bolds rusted and it was the only this stopping us from getting it out. Took over 1 hour to get it out.

You realize tho that when you do this, you'll be turning about 3300 rpms on the highway and you'll cut your gas mileage by about 1/3rd....

Even at 55-60... it'll be miserable. I would discourage changing out the gears unless you've got an overdrive. When you hear most people talking about running these high gears, they also have a T-5 or an AOD.

I have a 4 speed manual with a 3.55 rear end and Ithink driving on the highway ismiserable. It's loud and it vibrates like crazy, I think that I push about 3.5-4k at 65 mph. I couldn't imagine having anything lower like a 3.73 or 4.11. Maybe Uncle Sam will bless me with a good tax return after doing a year in Iraq and I will have enough for a nice 5 speed. I have a truck with a 5 speed and that 5th gear makes the diff in a nice highway drive.
