steering question

hi, my steering linkage has some type of steering stabilizer shock,and a resivoure(spelling) attached to it , ,the hoses have been removed ,is this a stock thing or an add on?thanks

It may be one of the early year’s power assist cylinder that looks like a shock with 2 hoses coming off it. I say power assist because power steering was not on mustangs yet, I had one on my 68. The good part about the power assist was if you lost the power, you it went to standard steering.

What year mustang is it? A picture of it would also help. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Sounds like someone disconnected your cylinder to achieve manual steering or avoid having to repair it. This is not a good thing and may lead to steering linkage failure.
You should either repair to stock or convert fully to manual steering, the sooner the better....

ok thanks ,,its a 68 coupe ,,no pics yet hopefully soon! wondering if it was unhooked because of the cars set up? street/strip..it also only has front brakes! havent looked yet but i believe theres nothing behind the rear hubs! tahnk for the help!
