Could anyone tell me how involved an engine rebuild is? Is it just basically remove everything, machine the block and heads, buy new parts and reassemble in the correct order with the correct torque?

Also whats the ballpark price to have someone else do it for me?

Hi !

Forme an engine rebuild is when the engine is after that in better shape then new. Better parts, better enginework, great Balancing Job

For other an engine rebuild is a set of new cheap rings, a gasket kit and a can of colour

A good engineshop tells you a price after you tear up the engine.Depennds onEngine you find a lot of good engine books with a lot of tricks

Buy this book, read it learn it.

http://www.amazon.com/Rebuild-Small-...177&sr=8-1

A rebuild is not that hard there are just a number of things that have to be right.

I could write a book on how to rebuild a small block Ford, but fortunately someone has done so already!!

Its not that complicated if you take your time and have a book!! Basically you need to take it apart, have the block ,crank and heads redone at a reputable machine shop and then start the reassembly process with all new parts! [8D]Make sure you have a really clean place to do it as any sand or dirt is your worst enemy!!There are so many variables its hard to say as far as cost.It all depends on if you are going back stock or Modding it!! Good Luck With It!!

The main thing is to make sure your clearances/thrusts are correct. Crank thrust, cam thrust, bearing/piston clearances, ring end gap etc. Otherwise it's mainly nut and bolt work. And torque everything with clean lubricated threads. I like to use moly lube for everything internal, and antisieze for everything external.

cant stress that enough. 1 single grit of sand can wreak havoc on your bearings before finally making its way to the oil filter
