Default TRACK ITS HISTORY

I recently bought a 1965 Fast Back which was originally from California ( i live in Australia). When i bought it the car itnever came with a warrantly plate as such i have no ideawhat the original paint, interior etc etc codeswhere for the car. I do however have the serial number which is stamped on the left fender apron in the engine compartment. My question is-

Is it possible to track down the rest of the information i would normally know from the warrantly plate for the serial number i have?

If the door (data) tag is missing your pretty much outta luck as thats the only place theVehicle Data was located.

However..
If you have the VIN number you could try...
You could order a Marti Report and get it (the info found on the door tag) that way. The Basic report is only 17.00 bucks. I'd go for the Deluxe myself though for 46.00 bucks. You could also contact Ford Customer Assistance Center and ask for a Ford CAC History Report. These are offered for free and are directly from Ford. An example. Not sure if this contact info still works but you can try:

Ford Motor Company
Customer Assistance Center 300
Renaissance Center
P.O. Box # 43360 Detroit, MI 48243
(800) 392-3673 or
(313) 322-3000

Good luck!

I am in the same boat.....

It appears as though the Marti Reports is for 1967+, is that correct?

I have a 1965 coupe.

Any thoughts as to where I can get the door tag information for a 65?

Yes thats correct regarding the Marti reports being for 67 to 79 only. Sorry about that. The only other way might be contacting Ford CAC center and ask them.

Just so you know how the goes.. I just called for the hell of it to get a Ford CAC report for my 67.

Ford: Hello, how can I help you?
Myself: Yes I'd like to get a CAC Report otherwise known as a History 999 Report
Ford: Huh?
Myself: Its a history report for a car.
Ford: Hmm.. can I have your last first and last name to pull up a profile?
Myself: ok...
Ford: We don't seem to have anything.
Myself: I'm not looking for a history report on myself dear. I want it for a car! [:@]
Ford: Ohh.. well we don't have anything listed under your name sir.
Myself: Well.. if I provide you with the VIN number could you look it up. Here is the VIN ...
Ford: Sorry sir but thats not a correct VIN number as its not a correct 17 number code.
Myself: (rolling eyes at this point) Yes thats because its for an older car. A 67 Mustang coupe.
Ford: Ohh.
Myself: Do you have a Research Division?
Ford: Yes.
Myself: Could I get their phone number and call them?
Ford: No sir they dont have a public phone number.
Myself: (sighs) Ok could you forward this information on to them along with my phone number?
Ford: Yes sir. Please hold. (waiting) Ok sir I've forwarded this over to our Research department. It may take 2 days for them to contact you.
Myself: Ok Thank you for your help.
Ford: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Myself: No. Thanks.
Ford: OK sir. If you could take a moment to fill out a customer assistance survey ... [:'(]
Myself: Yeah ok.. Thanks for your help. Bye.

So as you see they can't just help you while on the phone right away. I figured it would go like this. I'll see if I get a call in the next 2 days and update this.

I was in the same boat with my 66 coupe. I was able to determine exactly what day it was built by watching ebay for similar cars and if a VIN was close I would ask for the door ID plate data from the seller.
You are going to have to make up the data plate the way you want the car, because marti don't have data for pre 67 units.

I see that Virginia Classics is the cheapest for repalcement stamped data plates (around 25 USD).
good luck

That should help you out. Just enter the number that is on your fender into the correct fields and it will tell you lots of stuff. Best part is,
Its Free!

If you can find the built sheet for it ford put it alot of places taped to the wiring harness under the dash behide a door panel or stuck in the springs under a seat.If you can if it and still read it all the info is on it.

Ford destroyed the records[:@]

the only good news is you can make your car whatever you want and do a door tag to suit (and a VIN if you are that way inclined)
