I have a 65 mustang with a c4 automatic transmission and a 289. The 289 has to go (hole in piston wall). I am replacing it with a 1987 302 that had a manual in it. So with that said can i use my 28oz flywheel off my 289 or do I need to get a new one all together.
please excuse my ignores, I am learning about engines and transmissions by all this stuff. You guys are always great thanks a lot

 

As I understand, you will need a 50 oz imbalance flywheel. Others will chime in if I'm wrong, and a lot will even if I'm right. Stay tuned ......

 

You WILL need a 50oz offset flywheel.

 

Yep,,, a 289 flex / flywheel will not work in a post 1984 5.0 /302.

If going with the C-4 you will need a flexwheel..

For a manul trans you will need a flywheel...

 

oh ok so... is it going to be hard to change it over to a flex fly wheel

 

no but you gotta remove the pilot bearing out of the 302 or the trans and engine will not mate up
